Taking part in fishing and angling games competition in Pazin
I’m an avid lover of outdoor games. However, I’ve never taken part in any outdoor competition. Worst still, I’ve never been an enthusiast of water games. However, on the fall of 2008, my roommate from college convinced me to team up with her in angling competition.
I was quiet naive when it comes to water games; the best that I had managed prior to the event was swimming. I felt that this could be an awesome adventure and that was why I obliged. I wanted to try something different which could bring value to my life.
The offer came at a time when I was experiencing many hurdles in life. I had just lost my dad to lung cancer, and the prospect of avoiding travel as well as participating in games; which was somehow comforting was a big relief to me. I was up for anything positive which could help me get back to my real self. I wanted to get over all what had happened to me. The outdoor competition was an awesome opportunity for me to recover.
The event took place in Bare Cerovlje. We arrived at the area of the competition a day earlier because I wanted to take part in the free training which was being offered. My roommate had already taken care of the booking and confirmation that we would be participating. We had decided to participate as a group as opposed to individuals because I was quiet experienced in fishing or water angling.
Reducing health, stress and anxiety by participating in outdoor games
However, the basic training which we received assured me that I was that bad after all. I was up for the game. We arranged accommodation in a cheap hotel in the town. The next morning before we went to pay for the competition, we met as a team and we agreed that we would give our best. The opportunity was so exciting to me, and I felt that I was ready for the challenge.
We were then taken through the rules of the competition, before being assigned our path where we would take part in the fishing and angling competition in Europe. It was quiet chilly being the onset of winter. Therefore the first hours before I adapted, I could hardly concentrate. Actually, I had the least catch by the end of the hours meant for the competition for that day. However, the games were so challenging and quite motivating. It made me feel quiet myself. I had tried my best in the last two hours and my team members were proud of me.
I didn’t want to be the one to bring my team down. Therefore after the first days results were announced, I knew that I had to give my best the following day. I did so. I tried the best I could and actually I had the largest catch that day. This made me feel proud and good about myself. Even though we didn’t win any prize, the games had helped me greatly to reduce the stress that I was experiencing. It was also nice meeting new people who were lovely. The social interactions made me more confident and I was able to heave the traumatizing moments that I was going through.
